Flowers convey powerful meaning in Chinese lore; chrysanthemums augur long life, the lotus enlightenment. Orchids, flowering in secluded mountainous valleys are a symbol of perfection, elegance and tenacity and attributed beneficial qualities in Chinese medicine. For this suite of still life images in Emotional Geometry, the artist sculpted a delicate golden grid in response to the life force of each living bloom. Delicate and rigid, hard and soft, these golden grids are a manifestation of each flower’s life force at that specific moment in time.
